2月19日 日本当地时间17点，东芝株式会社召开新闻发布会，正式宣布今年3月末终止HD DVD业务。长达几年的下一代DVD格式之争HD DVD vs. Blu-ray Disc终于在今天划上句号。(特别说明：图片来自 Gizmodo )
东芝称目前将全部停止家用HD DVD录像机以及播放器的生产和开发工作，关于个人PC用的HD DVD驱动器，在满足现有客户需求的前提下，也将停止批量生产，但东芝也同时表示，将继续评估笔记本电脑内置HD DVD光驱的市场前景。再则HD DVD格式的撤出决定也并不影响东芝在传统DVD市场的策略。
