之后,由于Windows Vista的一般利用率不好而使得XP SP3延期,原因很简单,微软没有理由在此时为已经发布6年的老操作系统发布重要更新,否则定会冲击Vista的销售。
根据来自微软的线索,Vista SP1将会在2007年底发布,XP SP3将会在2008年发布。也就是说XP SP3的发布从2006年一直被延期到2008年。
5月21日,微软宣布了与可信赖计算组的互操作性墨水合作新闻稿中似乎透露了XP SP3的存在:
