比尔.盖茨在斯坦福大学 演讲 后接受采访时说， Windows 7在用戶界面和交互上大大超越XP和Vista 。从前一阵子泄漏的Windows 7 M1 Build 6.1.6519.1中看不到多少界面和操作上的变化，因为它仍然是一个非常早期的版本，还在使用Vista的基础架构，甚至还没有独立版本，所以它并不能代表将来的Windows 7。
据盖茨透露，Windows 7将会在界面外观和用户交互上进行大幅更新，支持语音识别和触摸式操作。这些虽然不是新技术，但是用于全球最普遍的消费操作系统还是首次。记得Vista还在开发时也提及过语音识别问题，但是后来还是未能实现。
